Hi Daniel

My suggestion would be to start by writing a plugin for Exaile. It's fairly
simple, and should help you get accustomed to working in Python/GTK. (If you
can't come up with your own idea for a plugin, one for Jamendo might be a
good start. Rhythmbox has one written in python, so you can borrow a lot of
the hard code from there. Take a look at the Music Sharing (DAAP) plugin for
an example of how to integrate this into Exaile). Also, don't be afraid to
ask questions. I am often in #exaile (If I'm not, talk to synic or
sjohannes, the other two devs) and I would certainly be willing to help you
with any problems you encounter.

Hi!

I haven't coded since university (7-8 years ago) but I'm getting
bored with my networking job so I figured I could look up coding again. I
like
Exaile a lot (I'm a regular user) and figured it might provide for some
interesting learning, code-wise.

My problem is the following : I have never worked with Python or GTK or
with
any project bigger than a team assignment. I've been reading the Python
newbie docs for a bit now, but I need something in the real world to keep
my interest up and I really don't know where to start looking to get a
grip on the Exaile code.

Anyone with a clue stick?

Thanks for your understanding,

Daniel

(I have worked with C/C++ (mainly), Java, Prolog and Scheme with a
little PHP/SQL on the side)
