Thanks for replying.

The method you have described above is exactly how it works currently
and is what I am trying to avoid.  The people viewing the finished
product are not ICT literate and I do not want them to open the file
and get the "Update Links" message and they also dont have access to
the raw data to be able to update it - I think if I save a copy of the
powerpoint as a PPS (powerpoint show) file this will get round it
though?

However, this method doesnt erase the need to copy and paste data into
powerpoint.  There are over a thousand data item's of huge complexity
- I dont have the time or patience to copy each one in manually!

Any other ideas?

With regards to format of the "nasty" excel sheet, it is a HTML file
converted into excel.  Does that help?
