more tips on Command line:

start a new Excel session:

call "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\EXCEL.EXE"
"Q:\Summit\Prod\Excel\test.xls"

start a workbook in existing Excel session

call "Q:\Summit\Prod\Excel\test.xls"

But any one knows how to save or close or other manipulation on Excel
