hi

Select all the cells in the workbook.
Go to Format - Cells - Protection
and uncheck the locked button

Now you can select the cells which you want to be locked for editing
when you protect the sheet ,

go to Format - Cells - Protection
check the lock button

Protect the sheet , only  those range of cells will be protected
