Couldn't figure out why but workaround is:

Sub Test
Dim a As Long
Dim b As Long
Dim c As Long
Dim d As Long
Dim e As Long
a = 4
b = 7 * 100
c = *a* * 10000     ' <---- Why do I get an overflow error here?
d = 1000000
e = a + b + c + d
End Sub
