to protect selected cells , follow mention steps:

   1. Select all cells.
   2. goto format cells>protection then uncheck locked button.
   3. Select cells which u wanna protect.goto format cells>protection
   then uncheck locked button.
   4. goto format cells>protection then check locked button.
   5. goto tool> protection >protect sheet then uncheck SELECT LOCKED CELLS.
