YOu could use something like this

Use in B1 where you put the client name in A1

=INDEX(INDIRECT("'[sample file register
.xlsx]"&LEFT(A1,1)&"'!$A$2:$A$20"),MATCH(A1,INDIRECT("'[sample file
register .xlsx]"&LEFT(A1,1)&"'!$B$2:$B$20"),0))
