It's really going to depend on what you want to do with them (the differences).
Excel stores "time" as a number that represents the fractional part of a day.
That means that at 6:00am, 6/24 of the day has passed, so Excel stores the
value as .25at 9:36am, .4 of the day has passed.and so forth.
So, even thought the VALUE in the cells is a number, Excel lets you DISPLAY it
in any manner you wish. 9:36:00 AM, or even a "custom" format:"hh.mm.ss"
results in: 9.36.00But the VALUE (.4000) remains the same.
So, since these are numbers, you can subtract the two numbers:G2-E2 is:10:54 -
9:36 which is:0.454166666666667 - .4000000 which equals:0.054166666666667 which
can be shown as:1:18
to expand this a bit:Excel DATES are numbers too. They're the number of days
since 1/1/1900.so, August 24, 2015 is 42240So that means that August 24,2015 at
9:36am is 42240.4
that means that you can subtract two date/times and get the number of days and
the fractional part of days between two times that are on different dates.
hope this helps.
