I am the administrator for a domain of a larger governmental forest. The group responsible for the forest has decided on a very long roll out of Exchange 2K/2K3 for themselves and the domains they directly administer.
My domain has already installed and moved all users to a Exchange 2K server in the Administrative Group that represents our Exchange 5.5 Site. I would like to remove our final Exchange 5.5 server from our AG/Domain, but obviously still need to route messages to other Exchange 5.5 users in the forest and its other subdomains. The Forest level Exchange Admins take is for me to just leave our Exchange 5.5 server running so that the site connector and ADC agreement can take care of all the replication. In my mind that is inefficient use of hardware and maintenance. I would like to replace the old Exchange 5.5 "Site Connector" with a Routing Group Connector? And uninstall the Exchange 5.5 server. They have agreed to allow us to try this (with their assistance), but have no experience with how it will behave. Can anyone give me some pointers? At what point would I remove the ADC Agreements and uninstall the old server? Thanks for any info you can provide!
