I am using the 3ware controllers with parallel IDE drives and am very happy with them. I have had a lot more problem with SCSI raid, but that is probably due to the early 10,000 rpm drives that compaq was using. Use good drives and keep them cool and either IDE or SCSI will work fine. There is no interface disadvantage to IDE with the 3ware controller as each drive gets a dedicated connector and hardware interface.
