Good morning:

Just thought you might like to know, I may have found a reason
for the slow performance and the empty directories/temp files created by
MaxCompression during a compression pass.

File level virus scanning on the Exchange server. Since the
virus scanner is set to scan on read/write file access, a scan is
performed when MaxCompression server writes out a temp file from the
mail database, then another scan when MaxC reads the file back into the
message database. The virus scanner may have a lock on the temp
directory and file so that the MaxC process cannot perform it's
housekeeping duties, the net effect being an empty directory and .tmp
file.

Just thought you might like a note from the field.
