We are finally looking at incorporating exchange here in our environment. I have come up with a solution I think will work and I wanted to run it by you (the experts) to make sure I was on the right track.
Primary Solution will look something like this: We are looking at putting a Symantec 5400 Gateway Security Device to catch most spam, virus, etc. Mail will be passed to a gateway server (probably Linux because I can't find an affordable alternative in windows). All mail going to our stores will be sent to their mail program on the application server (text base system). All mail going to corporate employees will be sent to the exchange server. The rational behind this setup is that we can a tremendous amount of money by not using exchange for our stores who will not be able to see the benefits anyway. The 5400 will not only filter our email but also our web traffic and thereby give us some added benefit. Does this setup sound feasible? Is there a windows level product that you would recommend for the gateway server? I say that someone mentioned iMail so I am currently checking that out now.
