That wasn't it...

Turns out that it was the setting:

REG_DWORD RerouteViaStore 1

I assume that the default behaviour would be to NOT resolve the SMTP address
to the Mailbox properties. Is that correct? (This is exchange 5.5)

The only thing I can think of is that someone changed the "ResolveP2"
settings. Search TechNet for that phrase.

Subject: resolving sender address

All,

We've got a monitoring solution in place that sends alerts via email for
certain events. There is a mailbox on one of our exchange servers (lets
call it exch2) called 'Argent' with an smtp address of
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Now, when the monitoring server is set to use
exch2 as its smtp relay, the message shows up in our inbox as coming from
[EMAIL PROTECTED], and double-clicking the sender shows the 'email
properties' window and and email type of SMTP. When the monitoring server
is set to use exch1 as its relay, the email shows up in our mailboxes as
from the resolved exchange recipitent 'Argent' and double-clicking the
sender brings up its exchange properties.

I've looked at the IMS, MTA and IS configurations on the two servers and
everything _appears_ to be set the same. What causes this difference in
resolution on the sender's address?

Thanks for any info and insight.

Bill
