The RPC seems to be working, as PDC-BDC replication is working properly. I can even remotely manage the Exchange server in the remote site using the Exchange Administrator. I can also force the directory replication between the two sites at any moment, and it works perfectly. However, I am encountering 9318 event ID errors which are usually RPC related, but this is not preventing replication from working (which uses RPC as well). Is there a way to do a more thorough test.

Last week, something weird started to happen, where email flow between the two servers is getting delayed. Messages destined to the other site build up in the MTA, and after several hours, the messages are all delivered in one bulk. As far as I know, when using a site connector, email flow is not scheduled, and takes place immediately when a message is sent from a site to another. I also noticed that if I stop the MTA service and restart it, all queued messages are delivered, and after this is done, new messages would be queued again. To temporarily overcome this issue, I have scheduled the MTA to stop and start every half-hour. I tried re-applying Exchange 5.5 sp4, and I also applied a couple of post-sp4 fixes, but the problem was not solved. Any idea on how to deal with this issue?
