Haven't run into this before. I'd use kill.exe on the service instead of restarting the server. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Exchange Discussions" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, April 22, 2004 4:58 PM Subject: Unable to stop SMTP svc
About a 3-month old install of E2K3 on W2K3. While trying to install the new Exchange roll-up patch, I discovered the SMTP service won't stop, either for the patch or just trying to stop it out of Services Manager. It hangs in a 'stopping' state. Once that happens, it seems I'm stuck with doing a restart in order to get it going again. I can probably accomplish the same by setting the service to manual and restarting before I apply the patch, but I'm curious what's happening. Nothing of any note in the event logs, and I've not found much on Technet that's helpful.
