Here is the text on the issue from swinc.com. I ran two domains on 5.5
for a long time before we went to 2003, for the same reason you are.

A1 : Add it to the Routing tab as routed to your primary domain.

Note: The entries in the Routing tab are wildcarded by default. This
means that if you put "domain.com", "red.domain.com", "domain.com", and
"light.red.domain.com" will all be matched. To force an explicit match,
prefix the domain with the "#" character (e.g. #red.domain.com). This
lets you route mail differently for a specific subdomain. Take the table
below for example:

Sent to: Route to:
domain.com <inbound>
#red.domain.com <primary.com>

Mail for "domain.com" and "green.domain.com" will be routed inbound.
Mail for "red.domain.com" will be routed to "primary.com".

A2: Just add the new domain's addresses as proxies to existing
mailboxes. Create MX records for the domains that point to the Exchange
server.

My company is changing its name and, unfortunately, its domain. During
the transition, I would like to be able to receive messages sent to both
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] I already have the second zone
file in place with an A record pointed to the correct mail server. I
also added the newname domain to Connections|Routing and have added the
new address to a test account...still no go.

Is it possible to do this? Or is this the event that will force me to
move to Exchange 2003?

If it is possible, what am I missing?

Thanks for any suggestions.
