Hi,
we setup a SBS 2K3 for a client last week. Monday morning its rife with
problems, being that the system disk had failed. The system disk contained
the OS on C: and E: which contained amongst other things, contained the
transaction logs.

The databases are on a disk which survived, but I am going to ignore those
for now and try to restore from tape.

We scheduled a backup each night, and it appears to have run properly on
Friday, with the server crashing over the weekend. The backup selected the
Information Store for that server (It did NOT include selecting the
exchsrv folders on each disk).

I have since rebuilt the server with SBS2K3 and exchange is installed,
what I want to do is just restore the mailboxes to exchange. I dont want
to restore the system state or user files, just the mailbox content.

So do I just perform a restore of the IS only and assign accounts to the
mailboxes, or create the accounts first and let the mailbox be restored to
them? Is this possible at all to do?

Lastly, there is a chance the backups did not work (I did a catalogue of
the tape and there is stuff on it, but just in case its bogus)... Is there
anyway to use the remaining database files which are still intact to
restore the mailbox data?

Your help is appreciated.

Regards,
Luke Cassar
