So does that mean that my new connector is only sending out NDR's on
behalf of the first connector.

I have been freaking out that it is relaying email. I just changed my
settings on imc inbound from accepting from any internal ip, to only
accepting from my specific IP (and of course it accepts from the relay)

This is part of Exchange logic that is designed to prevent mail loops.
If there is another connector available, and NDRs are generated by bogus
messages, the NDRs will be sent via the other connector (not the same
connector that received the bogus messages that generated the NDRs)

Subject: connector confusion

I finally set up my second exch5.5 server and moved my mailbox over as a
first test. In setting up the new server I made some config changes and
set up an IMS connector and have all mail coming in through my relay and
going out through my relay as well. This server has no external
interfaces.

I had been having trouble initially getting messages out of the que that
were destined for external servers. I got that fixed but realized the
the IMS outbound que was full of those emails where the originator is
<>. I have read that this is spam, I've read that its ndr's.

My main question though, is how are they getting through this exchange
server which has no mailboxes (until mine just recently) and no external
interfaces.

Is my first exchange server using my second exchange server's IMS
connector to send email?
