Fire up perfmon and see how those queues are doing, focusing on the MSExchangeIMC object and its related counters. Any AV on the IMS? Is the server adequate for the job?

A restart of the server (just a stop/start of the service would have been enough but it's been a long time since last reboot) bring the IMC back to life and about 4000 inside queue e-mail were sent to my DMZ smtp relay server very rapidly. It also start receiving messages from the DMZ but at a much slower rate. In fact, new e-mail seem to go through but inbound queue e-mail were delivered very slowly, some time 4 at a time, sometime 50 at a time. It took nearly 2 hours to received the 4000 queue e-mail from the DMZ. I know it could be a problem with the DMZ relay server and I am looking into it with their support but were could I look in Exchange to see if the problem could be there? There was nothing in the event logs and I have searched the Knowledge base but nothing so far. Any idea?
