About 4 days ago we started getting an EventID: 623, Source: ESE ,
Category: transaction Manager; error that would stop allowing people to
login to their mailboxes (and consequently would result in lots of 1022
Logon errors). It happens at the end of the day and a simple restart of
the information store gets everything back up and running again, but
doesn't fix the underlying problem.
These are the details of the error ...
Information Store (2800) First Storage Group: The version store for this
instance (0) has reached its maximum size of 155Mb. It is likely that a
long-running transaction is preventing cleanup of the version store and
causing it to build up in size. Updates will be rejected until the
long-running transaction has been completely committed or rolled back.
Possible long-running transaction:
SessionId: 0xBFD34120
Session-context: 0x00000000
Session-context ThreadId: 0x00000CFC
Cleanup: 1
This is on a Windows 2000/sp3 with Exchange 2003/sp1 Enterprise server
... it is a backend server in a fe/be setup ; it has 2gigs of ram and
has the /3gb switch in the boot.ini file ...
I have been on the phone with Microsoft PSS and we tried a registry fix
as per Q315407 which didn't work.
they want to try an ADSI change that is mentioned at the end of Q815372
... but I monitored my store.exe process (as outlined in Q815372) and
the average load was 1.8 gb (which is where it should be, I think, as
per the article)
Has anyone else seen this before? We will be looking at some hotfixes
(q329422,q821547,q815417) and a client latency article (q317722 - we
have lots of Entourage/Mac users .. about 1000 .. not all on this
machine --currently there are only 40 IMAP users connected with
Entourage to this server)
Any ideas, thoughts are appreciated ...
Thanks in advance ...
Mike
