All of the Management Packs for all Microsoft products are written by
Microsoft. Sure, 3rd party vendors create MP's for their products as
well. If you're looking to manage products from disparate vendors, how
do you expect to avoid installing 3rd party software somewhere along the
line?

For what its worth, the individual product teams at Microsoft are
responsible for creating the management packs, not the MOM group. In
other words, the Exchange team makes the Exchange MP, the AD team makes
the AD MP, etc. That said, you'd be hard pressed to find ANY other
application that will monitor Microsoft products as well as MOM will,
since, arguably, no other vendor is going to know how to monitor
Exchange as well as the Exchange team itself.

Subject: OT Using MoM to monitor your exchange servers.

In looking at ways to monitor our exchange servers and the other 90+
servers we have when we migrate to xchange2003 I've been looking at
MOM(Micosoft Operations Manager. It looks like it would do the job but
again it looks like it would add more software maintenance to the
servers since a lot of the MOM resource packs are from 3rd party
vendors.

Are any of you using it?
