That's not autoforwarding, that's alternate recipient using contacts. I
don't understand what you're calling a peer domain.

Umm, thanks Ed. I don't understand your comment. Could you expand a little?

We have some forwarding set via AD/Exchange user properties rather than
Outlook rules.

The peer domain is in the same AD forest - sorry if I didn't make that clear
- so is forwarding issue a red herring?

Paul

Auto-forwarding applies to rules-based forwarding. If you're allowing that,
then you are reaping what you sow.

Hi Ed,

Replies are disabled for whole org
Mailboxes limits are in place - 65/100/150mb

Don't have permission to disable Auto-forwarding - and we forward a lot
anyway. Would a temporary block for my own domain help to get rid of this
message?

Thanks,

Paul

Disable both Automatic Forwarding and Replies to the Internet. Set a large
Prohibit Send and Receive Limit on all mailboxes.

Subject: Mail Loop on Ex2k Adv or How to Crash Exchange

Hi,

A user sent a message to '=SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED]' where domain is a
peer domain with a now non-existent Exchange server. How this happened is
unclear but user says 'my typing was changed automatically'
so the address is retrieved from AD or users contacts.

The result is constant looping behaviour that sees the transaction logs
growing at 70MB per minute which filled the 5gb log partition and shut down
all the mail stores. The message is not in the queues. Dismounting the
user's mail store stops the looping, other mail stores are unaffected.

If the mail store re-mounted briefly tracking log shows the message with
repeat

SMTP: Message Submitted to Advanced Queuing
SMTP: Stated Message Submission to Advanced Queue
SMTP: Message Submitted to Categorizer

Any ideas on how to cure this?

TIA

Paul Christopher, UCL
