Yes, I have seen it. There are a few causes, and probably more mystery causes. If you don't replicate the public folder content off of the old public store, or if you don't properly configure the default public store for the mailbox store, you can see this.
Easier than recreating the profile, and with less annoying side effects such as lost settings, is to refresh the profile. Simply delete the last character of the user's name, and add it back if you want, then click check names. This has usually worked for me.
