We are having a debate in the group about verifying our Exchange backups. Half of the group feel it is a small risk to save on the below and the other half say it is not worth the risk. Below are the arguments for stopping the verification process.
1) Verifies when jobs fail, when run manually, always indicate that the backup was fine. 2) Jobs that verify successfully don't necessarily mean that the data will be good when you go to restore. 3) Increases tape drive time utilization by at least 10-25% 4) More wear and tear on media 5) More wear and tear on library Just to add additional information 1. We have experienced problems with our tape library over the past 6 months. 2. We do not have a problem getting our backups within our window. 3. As part of our future Exchange backup process I plan to Snapshot the Exchange databases, which will can be backed up later in the day, and reduce the backup window further. What are your opinions on this? Has anyone been in the position where they wished they had verify on and didn't?
