I set the Exchange Server to use the External DNS but got the same results.
Turns out Comcast has stopped mail delivery to that domain - that's why no MX records. They had announced that all of the attbi.com users would need to convert to comcast.net accounts by 12/31/04. The servers must have lingered around a little longer than that. But still, set your Exch server to use your ISP's DNS and test it. I have seen this on Exch 2000 that is using a 2000 server for DNS. It 'should' send to the A record if there is no MX record, but it looks like 2000 DNS and Exch 2000 working together never make that happen.
