Thanks for the suggestions, it looks like I have a good deal of reading
ahead of me.

Without knowing your background its hard to make a best recommendation. To
make the best out of an Exchange implementation you really need a set of
skills, not just knowing Exchange. Some basic areas to start would be:

-Windows 2003
-Active Directory
-IIS 6.0
-Exchange 2003
-Microsoft Outlook 2003

Generally Windows 2003 and Active Directory books are one and the same (not
always, but most times Windows 2003 books cover AD as well). Some times you
can get information on Outlook 2003 in Exchange books, but not enough to
learn the actual client. The best way to learn Exchange if you were to ask
me would be to learn about Windows 2003 and Active Directory first. Then
move on to Exchange 2003 and IIS 6.0.

The more I think about it the best way would probably be to study for and
pass Microsoft's certification exams as the material generally covers the
basics in all the above. In just about every book store I have been in
there are books that cover most of the common Microsoft certification tests.
That would be where I'd point you to.

If you are looking for basic Exchange information, Microsoft's site is full
of it. A good place to start would be here:
http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/evaluation/whatis.mspx

Best regards,
Steven

Looked through what they offered but didn't find anything that seemed
appropriate. Looked like everything was geared towards experienced Exchange
administrators, which is why I posed my question here. Thought there might
be a recommendation for someone starting to investigate and learn.....
