NTBACKUP should work fine. Be sure you are backing up the Information Store. Exclude backing up the M: drive, and, if you can, all EXCHSRVR\*data directories. Third party backup products don't do the backing up any better; they may be faster and have more features, though. When you're running NTBACKUP (Windows Backup) check out the Help > About and note the credits.
