1. You can try to remove the server object from the ESM to see what
happens as long as the server is off the network. If that does not work,
then you will need to delete the server out of AD using ADSIEdit.msc

2. The GAL is populated on objects in the GAL by the showinaddressbook
attribute. If you have multiple domain controllers and replication is
failing between them, then this might explain it. Also, if the client is
using Outlook 2003 in cached mode, you will need to rebuild the OAB and
then download the address book again to remove the users from the Gal.

Hope this helps.

Mike

Subject: Removing lost mailboxes from AD etc

Exchange 2000
Windows Server 2000

Ok I had a temp Exchange server and a couple of mailboxes were moved to
it (same domain.) I forgot these mailboxes were moved and I wiped the
temp server. Now I have AD accounts with associated mailboxes that are
gone. These are ex-employees so no big problem. I have two issues:

1. I didn't remove the temp server from the Exchange servers in AD. Is
it safe to do it now that the server is gone?

2. When I delete a disconnected account (mark mailbox for deletion) the
AD object/account is gone but I still see it on the GAL. Any ideas?

TIA,
John
