Just to confirm:

RFC 822, Section A3.1.
---
A.3.1. Minimum required
     Date: 26 Aug 76 1429 EDT Date: 26 Aug 76 1429 EDT
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] or From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
     Bcc: To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Note that the "Bcc" field may be empty, while the "To" field is required
to have at least one address.

Thanks much for your comment, Andy.

Well, anything's possible, but that scenario is unlikely for this guy.

Hmmm. I respectfully disagree. I've been in charge of our VMS/PMDF email
gateway for fifteen years now, and my experience is that PMDF is
remarkably forgiving of other broken mailers, but religiously
RFC-compliant about what it creates to send out.

The To: line of the email does, in fact, have his own address, which
resolves to his real Exchange 2003 mailbox. When my current crises die
down, I'm going to pay him a visit, and see exactly how he sends the
email.

Many thanks again for all the feedback. I'm still curious as to what he
did.
