A stand-alone ISA server (not in a domain).

Or squid, or NetCache, or...

I agree. Get the FE out of the DMZ and replace it with an ISA server.
Put the FE on the inside. The ISA server can just talk to the FE using
HTTPS.

So you really think putting an FE in the DMZ is more secure than
allowing HTTPS through a web publishing device? I think it's scary.

Ed,

Thanks again for you comments. Yes, the FE server is in a DMZ. However,
we managed to get two other Windows 2003 servers working that are on the
internal network. The only things I can think of are:

1. This new 2003 server on the internal network is in a different domain
in the same forest. However, we tested the trust between the two
domains, and it's a 2-way trust, and it works.
2. The #1 firewall guy who set up the other two servers was at a
conference for this third one, so this one was set up by the backup
firewall guy.
Currently, the #1 firewall guy is busier than busy, but I'm still
hounding him every day to put some time on this.

I had my Windows guy and my IIS guy looking at it yesterday, and we
still think it's firewall-related.

For security purposes, I don't think the firewall guy will just open it
wide open. But, I'll keep at him until we get something working.
Luckily, this is a brand-new server, so the client will hopefully be a
bit more understanding if it all doesn't quite work yet....
