The mailbox exists on this Exchange server or it is a FE Exchange server? The account is enabled for POP3? -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Pat Richard Posted At: Wednesday, July 20, 2005 12:50 PM Posted To: swynk Conversation: Can't authenticate when connecting via POP3 Subject: RE: Can't authenticate when connecting via POP3 Okay, I verified that the alias for test was, in fact, "test". So I attempted: Domain\test\test as the user. Also, I tried Domain.local\test\test, but that didn't work either. The address I'm going to is office.domain.com, but the AD domain is domain.local. Is that an issue? -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Chris Scharff Sent: Wednesday, July 20, 2005 1:33 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Can't authenticate when connecting via POP3 The correct format for a pop3 username is domain\nt_account\mailbox_alias. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Pat Richard Posted At: Wednesday, July 20, 2005 12:26 PM Posted To: swynk Conversation: Can't authenticate when connecting via POP3 Subject: RE: Can't authenticate when connecting via POP3 Yes, I did try that - no luck. Environment: - Exchange 2003 SP1 on Windows Server 2003 SP1 behind a firewall. - server is in a single domain forest with just one other server. This server holds all fsmo roles. - server is called "pdc" (pdc.domain.local) - there is another Exchange box in the Admin Group, but it holds no mailboxes. It's just for testing as well. - port 110 is forwarded to the server - POP3 service is running - POP3 virtual server is active - user account ("test") has POP3 access enabled - I can connect when telnetting over port 110 Problem: - From outside the environment, I setup Outlook 2003 to connect via POP3 to the office.domain.com address that I have pointing to the firewalls public IP. - if I click to test the configuration, everything is completed OK except I get prompted for the password again. - I am attempting to connect as "test", and have tried "domain/test", "domain.local/test" and even "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", but I get the same response - just prompted again for the password. - I've verified that the password is correct. - no signs of issues in the event logs. I've looked around to find any information on what to check, but everything is coming up ok. What am I missing? Note - No need to recommend other methods (RPC over HTTP, OWA, etc). I'm just testing this process for the heck of it. _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=exchange To subscribe: http://e-newsletters.internet.com/discussionlists.html/ To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
