Agreed, but you can't discount the other features that may make one solution more attractive while still providing the core functionality. Since the original poster did mention ISA specifically, it was worthwhile to point out the extra features in light of the list on which the question was posted. :)
On the FE to multiple BE issue... That's why I specifically stated "for smaller organizations who wish to run OWA"... Smaller orgs typically only have one Exchange box. Even in the case of a FE box though, ISA in front of it is still a good practice. Joe Pochedley A computer terminal is not some clunky old television with a typewriter in front of it. However, being that this is an exchange List which leads me to believe the original poster is also running Exchange..... ISA Server has much more to offer than just proxy services. It's a full featured, application level firewall as well. Some of the advantages it has over Squid are secure publishing of OWA (both up front authentication and web filtering). SMTP filtering, should you choose to use it. And other non-exchange related filters. ISA will also allow for integration into AD and authentication on AD accounts / groups. (Last time I looked, Squid didn't offer that functionality, unless they've got LDAP support in Squid now?) Even a Pentium-III class machine (with enough ram & diskspace) and act has a caching & content filtering proxy server for several thousand users. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, July 22, 2005 11:28 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: WAY OT: Proxy Servers Does anyone have any recommendations for proxy servers? I have an old version of WinGate that's a dog. The two systems that seem to be a good solution so far are: newest WinGate version or Microsoft ISA server. I'd like something that logs activity, has user/group authentication, filtering, AD integration, caching etc. _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=exchange To subscribe: http://e-newsletters.internet.com/discussionlists.html/ To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
