Andy, I didn't put WINS in the NIC stack on the 2003 server. Yes to both systems using the same DNS servers.
As per my last message, Directory Replication seems to be OK since I see the 2003 mailboxes from 5.5. A message sent from 5.5 to 2003 however disappears off the face of the earth since there are no queues for 2003. Since this in a test environment would a reinstall be of any help? It seems like it is not replicating Exchange 2003 stuff from AD to Exchange 5.5 directory. By any chance - is your Exchange 5.5 server also a domain controller? (I am thinking port 389 conflict). Or it could be as simple as LDAP port closed on your Exchange 5.5 server, or maybe LDAP protocol's authentication is not set correctly. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Sauer, Steve Sent: Tuesday, September 06, 2005 10:34 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Exchange 5.5 to 2003 Message transfer Andy, I resolved the adressing problem with a connection agreement on the recipients container in AD. I can see the mailboxes on both systems just fine. On the second issue -- messages go to the correct MTA Queue (on the 2003 side) but stop. The Exchange 5.5 system only sees the 2003 DSA. On the 2003 side 2003 sees all the 5.5 connectors and queues the messages. I can't find anything in the event logs to show me why 5.5 does not see 2003. To answer your other question - there is no need for an X400 connector. Exchange 5.5 should see the Exchange 2003 server as another 5.5 server in the same site. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Sauer, Steve Sent: Friday, September 02, 2005 10:06 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Exchange 5.5 to 2003 Message transfer Ed, In response to both of your questions: 1. The connection agreements are on the ADC that is on the DC. All are 2-way agreements: a. Users: from DC to E2K3 server b. Public Folders: from DC to E2K3 server where the Deployment tool said to change the connection agreements to connect to the new E2k3 server I changed the Exchange server section not the Windows server section. Do I need a connection agreement between the E2K3 server, as the windows server, and the E5.5 server? 2. The MTA stacks service is running on both of the Exchange servers. I'm really glad I have the time and resources to test this in the lab before full rollout! I am testing an Exchange 5.5 to 2003 migration. I have followed the Deployment Tools methodology and have the 2003 server joined into the 5.5 site and organization. I can connect to mailboxes on each server, move mailboxes to the new server and am generally happy with the way things are going. However, I can't seem to get the two servers to pass message traffic back and forth. The 5.5 server immediately returns a NDR when sending to a 2003 mailbox and 2003 places the message into the 5.5 servers queue where it just sits. Do I need to configure an X.400 connector between the two servers to get message traffic flowing? Directories seem to be synchronized since the 5.5 box knows that the target mailbox is on the 2003 server and correctly tries to route the message over the MTA as if it was talking to another 5.5 box. Can anyone point me to the documentation describing this phase of the migration? Thanks for the great help this list is to the Exchange community.
