You can point Exchange to a specific GC, but that has some potentially
negative side effects in terms of failover flexibility. Exchange
performas a series of tests periodically to determine the 'best' GC for
it to communicate with. Make sure that you have a GC available in the
same Windows site as the Exchange server.

Interesting you say that. We lost a domain controller about 10 days ago.
We rebuilt a new one with the same name and same IP address. The check
mark for GC was added a couple days later. Is there a way to somehow
refresh the GC list on the exchange server or point it a different GC?
Thanks again.

The group should be universal. DL expansion is done by the Global
Catalog. When you look at message tracking for these messages does it
show that the membership was improperly expanded? If so, it is likely
that the GC that Exchange server is communicating with is unable to
perform complete expansion of the DL.

Lists are less than ten people, all recipients are internal, in the
parent domain. The group I had trouble with today was universal. I have
since changed it to global.
Which component is responsible for breaking down group lists?
Thanks for your help.

Are all your groups Universal in scope?

I am having intermittent trouble with some emails never getting
delivered to some groups. The problem is difficult to repeat. But I have
people contact me to ask why their email never got delivered. It shows
in their sent items, but never makes it to the recipients.

Background: 1 domain, 1 child domain that does NOT include its own
exchange server. Windows 2003, Exchange 2003 - latest service pack files
and patches. Problem seems to have begun after we put in the child
domain.

My suspicion is it may have something to with the RUS. Any ideas on
which diagnostic logging to turn up to check more on the RUS?

Does the MTA handle the breakdown of group lists?

Thanks in advance for your help.
