Oh god, brick level backups -- someone actually suggested that here,
but no. It was taking about 53 hours to backup with Veritas that
someone else was running. I started using Retrospect on a dedicated
box and it dropped to 24 hours. Veritas & retrospect are disk-to-disk
over gig ethernet to a SATA array.

We finally got the green light to turn grooming back on, let that run
for awhile and now I'm running eseutil to shrink it down a bit. At
the rate it's going though, it's looking like 40 hours for eseutil to
complete on a 2TB ATA drive set of the SAN (EMC 300), so I'm
cancelling that and moving it to an 800Gb fiberchannel LUN and hoping
that it's enough space for eseutil to complete. Oh and that 710Gb
store didn't include the streaming file, that's another 200Gb.

With any luck I'll end up with around 400Gb and then work on breaking
it up into multiple databases which will be easier to restore.

I hate it when people think they can just throw disk space at
something and call it good....then a year later dump it off on someone
else to fix.
