I'd change that plan and let the remote office get their mail over the WAN. With cache mode, the need for that remote server is gone. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Scharff" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Exchange Discussions" <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, January 16, 2006 1:44 PM Subject: RE: 5.5 Move Server Wizard
I was thinking the same until I reread and saw there were no plans to upgrade the remote site. Then I thought 'aw fsck it, let someone else deal with that BAS.. I'm going to get a burrito at Freedbirds'. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Missy Koslosky Posted At: Monday, January 16, 2006 2:20 PM Posted To: swynk Conversation: 5.5 Move Server Wizard Subject: Re: 5.5 Move Server Wizard It's actually easier to get Exchange 2003 installed and then flatten the organization - E2K3 SP1 has some nice site and server consolidation tools. The Solution Accelerator for Exchange Consolidation and Migration (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/itsolutions/ucs/ecm/saecm/default.mspx ) has a lot of information about this. Missy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul Hutchings" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Exchange Discussions" <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 15, 2006 2:59 AM Subject: 5.5 Move Server Wizard I have a 5.5 organization consisting of 2 sites. The main site is running 5.5 and I'm about to order the hardware for Exchange 2003. The smaller site is a remote office, the single server down there is a Windows 2000 domain controller running 5.5 SP4 with 35 mailboxes on it, for the moment there's no plan to migrate them to 2003 but we might do so. The only connectors in the remote site are the directory replication connector and the site connector, and being the only server it's both the first and last server in the site. Before I look at installing the ADC and moving the main site to Exchange 2003 I'd like to flatten things so that I only have a single Exchange 5.5 site - the only reason for having the two 5.5 sites was to control replication/message traffic. All administration is handled by me, so I believe what I should have before is a single 5.5 site which will then become a single Administrative Group with 2 routing groups *if* I find traffic is a problem. >From the documentation, it looks pretty straightforward: Replicate public folders from that site to ours Remove the event service Remove the directory/site connectors Run the wizard Recreate all users Outlook Profiles What I'm not sure of if is firstly if there's anything to be aware of that the documentation doesn't cover? Secondly, we have recipient containers in both sites (from before the previous admins RTFM) and the documentation doesn't seem to cover what happens with these - if they get created in the destination site, or if they get moved into a default container in the destination site?
