There is a KB article somewhere which explains how you can intentionally
damage a PST file and chop off some of the data from it and then run
ScanPST to repair the damaged copy. You will lose some data.

Restore a smaller PST from backup. If he hit the 2GB limit there will be
data loss, no way around it. Fortunately if the data was important it's
backup up somewhere.
