What I'd do - RAID 1 on the two 36GB drives. Partition as C: and D:,
with about 10GB on C: and the remainder on D:. RAID 5 on the 3 70GB
drives, single partition E: Put the operating system and program files
on C:. Put the logfiles on D:. Put the databases on E:.

My personal preference is to separate operating system files, logfiles,
and database files all on completely separate arrays connected to
different controllers, but that isn't always practical and isn't
strictly necessary for such a small environment.

Are you going to be running OWA or an SMTP connector on that same box?

Thanks,

Geni Hawkins

Subject: Best drive configuration

I'm going to be putting Exchange Server 2003 on a Dell 2650. It has 5
spindles (two 36 GB Raid 1 and three 70 GB Raid 5). (Presumably the
Raid configuration could be changed.) What would be the best
configuration for these drives in terms of RAID configuration and
partitioning? I don't anticipate heavy use (approximately 55 mail boxes
and no public folders).
Thanks for your help.

Curt Finley
