You can run forestprep until you turn blue. You can have two ADC machines, but with different connection agreements on them. Wehave two ADC servers, but one has all the CAs and the other one doesn't have any CAs. It is there just in case the first one fails, then we can move the CAs to the second one.
ADC does not interact with NT that much. It interacts with Exchange 5.5. I don't see a problem feeding your Exchange 5.5 into one of the child domains. We have a parent domain. It is actually an empty root. And our ADC feeds Exchange 5.5 to the child domain.
