Colleagues, Expanding on the thread I started about Bounces and mail loops, I was testing to see if I can get a hard bounce on a bad address again, but this time I sent email from my own Exchange account from inside our network. I sent to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" and watched in the Message Tracking Center as the message looped between us and our external anti-Spam provider. We'd queue it up for remote delivery and send it outbound to mxlogic.net. They'd turn right around and deliver it back to us. And, we'd queue it up for them again, until it exceeded the hop count, and finally bounce it right back to me, the sender, after a half-hour or more, with an error that has become confusing to our users:
I have the box checked "This Exchange Organization is responsible for all mail delivery to this address." in the Organization/Recipients/Recipient Policies/Default Policy Properties/smtp @lcms.org/Edit screen. And, oddly enough, if I send to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" I get an immediate bounce back. "The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to." No looping at all. Now, @concordiatech.org is listed as our default domain in that tab, whereas @lcms.org is simply one of many other smtp addresses we accept email for. What do I have configured wrong? How can I get it configured so we keep all email sent to lcms.org addresses and avoid all these lengthy email loops?
