I've seen this happen too once or twice, but didn't look into it too far because my main approach here is to discourage users from large attachments and show them the wonders of FTP.

Two questions: does the user use Word as the email editor?
And does the user edit the attachment within Outlook? This also makes all kinds of trouble.

Subject: outlook attachments 2x size

Hello gents, running Exchange 2003, with Outlook 2003 clients. One user
is reporting the following:

When he attaches a file (say 1MB), it appears in his outlook as taking
up 2MB. This does not seem to happen all the time. While other users
have not reported the problem, I cannot guarantee that he is the only
one with the issue. When he does get the problem, it is always
consistent, in other words a 1mb attachment becomes 2mb, a 5mb
attachment becomes 10mb, etc..

Thanks in advance!!

Aristotle Zoulas
