Or if you are executing a telnet attempt from within your network, many
firewall/gateway products do not allow traffic inside -> outside -> in.

There is no difference.

But....

Where are you teleneting from... home????

The ISP you use may block port 25 outbound from your home PC (or from
wherever you are testing.

Subject: why can not telnet (on port 110 or 25) to exchange server when
is connected to internet via NAT

Hi All,
I Have a static ip for my NAT, my exchange server is connected to
Internet via this NAT. exchange server and NATs Machins are different, I
try to telnet to NAT on Port 110 or 25: telnet myserver.com 110 , or
telnet myserver.com 25, but I can't connect to the exchange server.
because NAT doesn't send packets to the exchange machin. packet arrives
to NAT machin but not to exchange server machin. but when i try to send
mail via yahoo or gmail, Exchange Server recieves mails, and if turn on
IP Sniffer we can see packets on port 25 are exists in exchange server
and NAT (both of them) whats a difference from my action (try to telnet
on 25) and gmail (send smtp packet on port 25)
