Crikey that seems quite a lot of messing on a live box tbh. Not
doubting it works, but is there not a simpler way, at least just for a
quick test?

Subject: RE: Server ActiveSync Error 3031

The cause of the problem is having forms based authentication enabled on
a single server deployment. FBA turns off Integrated Authentication on
the /exchange virtual directory.

If you follow the instructions in 817379 that usually works, although I
have found not always.
Therefore I wrote my own variant of the method here:
http://www.amset.info/exchange/mobile-85010014.asp

Basically my method involves turning off FBA to begin with, as the
Microsoft process can bring across the configuration that causes the
problem.

Need cheap certificates for Exchange, compatible with Windows Mobile
5.0?
Go to http://www.certificatesforexchange.com/ for certificates for just
$20 a year.
Now includes SAN certificates for Exchange 2007 for just $59 a year.

Subject: Server ActiveSync Error 3031

I'm trying to get Activesync to work from the Internet.

OWA works perfectly, OMA seems to work too (we did have to import the
Geotrust root cert onto the Windows Mobile 6 device we're using).

Our Exchange 2003 SP2 server is throwing up the following error:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Server ActiveSync
Event Category: None
Event ID: 3031
Date: 03/01/2008
Time: 11:44:07
User: MIRANET\Paul Moore
Computer: MAIL03
Description:
The mailbox server [fqdn.of.server] does not allow "Negotiate"
authentication to its [exchange] virtual directory. Exchange ActiveSync
can only access the server using this authentication scheme. For
information about how to configure Exchange virtual directory settings,
see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 817379, "Exchange ActiveSync and
Outlook Mobile Access errors occur when SSL or forms-based
authentication is required for Exchange Server 2003"
(http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=3052&kbid=817379). For
information about how to properly configure IIS to support Kerberos and
NTLM authentication, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 215383, "How
To Configure IIS to Support Both Kerberos and NTLM Authentication"
(http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=3052&kbid=215383). This issue
may occur after installing Windows SharePoint Services on a server
running Exchange Server 2003. For information about how to properly
configure a server to run both Windows SharePoint Services and Exchange
Server 2003, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 823265, "You receive a
"Page not found" error message when you use Outlook Web Access (OWA) to
browse the Exchange Server 2003 client after you install Windows
SharePoint Services"

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I followed this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/215383/ and sure enough
the "NTAuthenticationProviders" property is not defined, which, as I
interpret the article means I don't need to change anything.

Help!! Any suggestions at all would be appreciated as there seem to be
lots of references to this problem, but few solutions.

Cheers,
Paul
