Wouldn't be the first poorly written KB ;) >From how I heard it described - it may EVENTUALLY get that far.
With non-PSS support, non-VM duplication of the problem is the FIRST thing Microsoft will ask for. With PSS support, they will start normal troubleshooting and don't assume a VM-related issue. --James -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Dean Cunningham Sent: Thursday, May 01, 2008 8:35 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Exchange 2007 questions So the paragraph in there " For Microsoft Premier-level support customers running non-Microsoft hardware virtualization software from vendors with which Microsoft does not have an established support relationship that covers virtualization solutions, Microsoft will use commercially reasonable efforts to investigate potential issues with Microsoft software running together with non-Microsoft hardware virtualization software. As part of that investigation, Microsoft may require the issue to be reproduced independently from the non-Microsoft hardware virtualization software. Where issues are confirmed to be unrelated to the non-Microsoft hardware virtualization software, Microsoft will support its software in a manner that is consistent with support provided when that software is not running together with non-Microsoft hardware virtualization software." Shouldn't be there? 0 0 | \_/ -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Wells, James Arthur Sent: Friday, 2 May 2008 13:00 To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Exchange 2007 questions Almost. KB 897615 does not apply to customers with a Premier/PSS contract. --James -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Dean Cunningham Sent: Thursday, May 01, 2008 7:53 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Exchange 2007 questions First Para That's your interpretation of a DMZ I fully agree with your web publishing proposal Second Para Stop and actually read and understand what I wrote. Third Para I have read the document (many times in the past...) you have the cart before the horse. MS support document states (paraphrased) "replicate in physical environment *then* if it is the same they will support" http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=897615 Fourth Para You were looking at the wrong DMZ type, there are many. cheers Dean -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Ed Crowley Sent: Friday, 2 May 2008 12:16 To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Exchange 2007 questions DMZ stands for De-Militarized Zone. Putting a front-end server, what with all the dangerous ports you have to open, in the DMZ is tantamount to militarizing it. A web publishing appliance or ISA server in the DMZ is the proper device to put in the DMZ because it's designed to be in a DMZ. If you put your <insert Exchange front-end server here> in your DMZ and it's compromised, a much more likely possibility in a DMZ, then you're just about equally screwed. As to the VMware argument, you're arguing apples and oranges. In fact, Exchange on VMware is supported up to the point where it is suspected that the virtualization is part of the problem. You're welcome to read Microsoft's statement. I've been to the DMZ. I've looked into it from above, I've walked into a tunnel under it. And there were no Exchange front-end servers in it.
