At first glance My WM phone does indeed force me to sync the Inbox. It
will not let me uncheck that folder. This may or may not be tweakable
in the registry. If I can find the Key that controls this, I will test
it and let you know.
I appreciate that, Brett. I didn't even know the WM registry was
accessible. I'll look into that too.
My other thought would be to create a sub folder of Inbox named Mail. I
would then create a Server Side rule in Outlook that runs first and
moves all incoming mail into the Sub-Folder named mail. Then run all
your other rules off of this folder. This way you will never have any
email in your Inbox, and Now you can choose to not sync your new folder
called Mail to your WM phone. Since it's a server side rule your phone
will never get mail to its inbox iether, and now you can selectively
sync which ever other folders you like.
Does that work for you.
I actually developed a similar scheme, and it worked, but it added another
layer of tiresome complications to an already "rich" environment. :)

This question is directed at Brett and Jean-Paul primarily, as you seem
to
be very savvy about WM. I tried WM a little while ago, but I had to
give up
on it. Although I liked it, I couldn't get it to do what I needed it to
do:
sync only the Outlook folders that I select and NOT sync the default
Inbox.
I know, it's a weird requirement, but I am able to do just that with my
antiquated Palm Treo and Intellisync. None of the WM experts I
consulted
with could figure out a way to do it, maybe you two can?

You have 2 options when dealing with large mailboxes and WM Cell phones.
1st. Option:
You have a 4GB Mailbox in exchange, you may only want to keep items for
X amount of days old on the Cell Phone. You may also want to only keep
the first .5k - 2Kb of all emails on the Cell Phone. Then if you need
more of that message the rest can downloaded. This practice should work
well for any size mailbox and just about any WM Phone.
2nd Option:
You can edit the WM Registry on the Phone to store all email and
attachments
To your storage card. My ATT Tilt WM6.1 Phone can support up to a 32GB
storage card. Currently I have an 8GB card and I can easily fit my
entire 2GB Exchange Mailbox on it. I can thus allow my phone to download
every email in full detail. This method is not for the faint at hart
and is only recommended for Power Users who understand Windows Mobile,
Roms, Registry, exchange, etc.

If the idea is to have a cell phone that can access exchange in all it
glory, then a Windows Mobile 6 Cell phone will do the trick.
The big factor for me why I use WM vs BlackBerry is because BlackBerry
does not do a good job of managing your Outlook folders. It's a real
pain to view them in a concise smart layout. This also becomes an issue
with the server and syncing multiple folders. Best practice is to only
sync your inbox with a BB which of course loses any email being
processed by a server side rule. Syncing all sub folders on a BB causes
huge problems back on the BES server when you have thousands of users.
This is not the case with WM. Also when you view subfolders on the
BlackBerry you can not quickly and easily tell which subfolders have new
mail. Also you can not view sub-folders on a BB in a tree form. It's a
very plain text layout where as WM starts at the top and can have
multiple pivots which you can choose to expand and collapse at the click
of the screen or button.
Also in WM, I can, at the click of a button open my Outlook profile and
see that the sub-folder "Alerts" has 3 new messages waiting for me. Now
I can view that information faster and spend less time processing the
junk. Again I use server side rules to move messages to key locations
on my mailbox which gets replicated to my WM device in all its glory.
Also WM does a better job at keeping all your emails message status up
to date. You will see over time on Both WM and BB some emails will
refuse to show up read, and you will have to manually fix this on the
phone. This tends to happen much more often to BB then WM.

I use the ATT Tilt which is Quad Band 850/900/1800/1900 GSM & 3G, this
phone can be easily unlocked to accept any SIM card, or be flashed with
newer Roms. To be honest the stock Windows Mobile 6 Rom has lots of
issues. Currently I am using a custom cooked Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro Rom.
I can sync with Exchange Direct and Get all of my Outlook folders,
including all sub-folders, Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks. Wireless
Active-sync does not support Notes.
Added Bonus the ATT Tilt comes with a free licensed app by Blackberry to
sync with a BES Server as well, which will give you all of the same plus
Notes. However the BES APP is not stable on a WM Phone, nor do I
Recommend using it.
Aw yah changed the rules again ;-)

Technically, yes, a soft phone (VOIP) application from your PABX
provider and notebook with SIM card for data ;-)
You will not get full outlook, as in, notes, favourites and files cannot
synced remotely
That's at WM6 dunno about 6.1 but id does not look like they have
upgraded activesync for 6.1 specifically
And of course support for email attachment will depend on what
applications will run on WM
I use a HTC Touch and like it (also like the treo) would look at a HTC
Touch Diamond or HD if I were to replace mine)

I'd buy a 6.1 phone with intergrated GPS (can be handy for the traveler
with google maps)

esp if your looking at Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager
2008 in the future

"Full" Outlook? That would be one heck of a smart phone. Do they make
notebooks with integrated phones?

I've been tasked with finding a Smartphone / pda (world phone for
travel)
with full outlook, to connect to our exchange server wirelessly not
through
a cable /sync scenario.
TIA
