We are running Exchange 2010 SP3. We have federation working for our primary
email domain (montagehealth.org). We added a second email domain (example.org),
however if a user only has the "example.org" smtp address, federation fails. If
we add a "montagehealth.org" address then everything federates okay. In the
federation management, I added "example.org" and the relevant TXT record a
couple days ago, but federation still fails. Do we have to add the
"exchangedelegation.example.org" and the TXT record to match for that subdomain?

>From this link here:
>http://www.expta.com/2011/07/how-to-configure-exchange-2010-sp1.html it states
>we have to run the following:

"Run the following cmdlets from EMS to generate domain proof values:

Get-FederatedDomainProof -DomainName exchangedelegation.companyabc.com
Get-FederatedDomainProof -DomainName companyabc.com

Repeat the second cmdlet for additional SMTP domains you want to federate, if
any" (emphasis mine)

Based on the above, I figured I only had to add "example.org" in the Federation
Trust and all would federate without issue. However, I added "example.org" and
added "example.org" to the Organization Relationships in the target forest I
want to federate with, but it's not working.

So I have a few questions:

1) Does federation only work if the user has an email address matching the
initial domain that was configured?

2) If not, do I need to add "exchangedelegation..." as part of any new
domain federation setup?

Thank you.
