We did it, but not in a public folder.

Setup a mailbox called 'IT Requests'. Give ALL of the people who you'll want
to be able to assign the tasks permissions to 'send on behalf' of the IT
Requests user/mailbox. Also, give all persons in your group who need it,
rights to the various folders of the user IT Requests such as Inbox, deleted
items, sent items, and tasks. Then, just open that user as an additional
mailbox on all of the people you wish to be able to assign.

Works like a charm. We use the Categories field for prioritization
(categories A, B, C, etc.) and for categorization (software, hardware,
service, etc.). We use the Companies field for department as well.

Hope that helps. It doesn't provide the best metrics in the world, but you
can get decent reporting based on customized views by department, category,
requestor, etc.

Enjoy!

I don't believe you can assign tasks when it is a public folder.

Subject: IT requests in Public folders

Hello all,

I want to setup a IT request folder in the public folders. I want people to
be able to send an email to IT Request and it will be saved as a task and
then I can assign tasks to individuals from that list....

Anyway I know this has been done if someone could point me in the right
direction.

Thanks!
