Have you tried: removing multiple OST files. Close OLK. Search for *.OST and
delete all. Then reopen OLK. When the OST tries to sync there is
contention...

The Resource Kit has trust testing utilities ("nltest" or "netdom" I think).

The Exchange server is in a separate Domain and the trust appears to be ok.
(Any suggestions on testing a trust are appreciated).

In my case the OS on my workstation is W2K. Nothing has changed on our
network for an extended period. No recent changes to DHCP either. I can
ping the exchange server without a problem and map a drive to it without any
problem.

I didn't know what you were already aware of, so I figured I'd suggest the
most likely thing. Are the users in the same domain as the Exchange
servers? If not, are trust relationships still okay? What operating
system? Anything different happen with your DHCP leases? Anything
change in your underlying network topology? I'm thinking it's timing
out or something, or having trouble in name resolution. Ping the server by
its netbios name, see what happens there. Map a drive to it, whatever.
Just to make sure that it knows what \\servername is, and how to find it.

See, I'm just flailing away at it. Better go get more coffee.

I'm aware of these settings and it is set to NT Password Authentication, and
has been for several years. That's why I can't figure out why this message
is now suddenly appearing.

Under the "Advanced" tab of your Exchange Server properties, in your
profile, what's the "Logon Network Security" set to?

Here's the little help doodad they give you:
"Specifies a password authentication option. To log on to Microsoft Exchange
Server with the same network security password that you established when you
logged on to your network, click NT Password Authentication. If you select
None, you will be prompted for your logon password when you start Outlook.
Consult your network administrator to determine which option to select."

It seems to work when you enter the requested info, but why is it asking?
All of the event logs are looking fine as of right now, and WINS seems to be
running smoothly.

What happens when you enter the prompted info? Does it work? Anything odd in
the event logs of your Domain controllers? No WINS problems?

I apologize for forgetting the following:

It's a 5.5 server running SP3.

Clients appear to be Outlook 2000

No recent changes have been made on any of the systems involved.

Just today several of my users, including myself have started seeing Outlook
suddenly prompt for the following:

User id

Domain

Password.

What would cause this to suddenly start happening. This can happen at any
time: at logon, composing a message,
logging off, etc... I have tried to search the archives as well as TechNet,
but haven't found an answer yet. If anybody has seen this and can suggest a
fix for it please let me know.

Thanks...

Chad Bryan
