Exchange uses x.400 addresses for internal messaging. Period. That is why
if you remove all SMTP addresses from a mailbox, they can still send and
receive mail internally. SMTP addresses are used for receiving mail from
outside the company. No, you can't make Exchange use the SMTP addresses
internally, because that's not the way it was designed to work. Do you
think having the x.400 addresses is in some way causing a problem? I
guarantee they are not. But if you remove them, you will cause a problem.
Plus, you don't seem to understand that the IMS is ONLY used for
sending/receiving Internet-bound mail. It still doesn't have a thing to do
with internal mail. Internally, mail is sent via one of several methods.
1. The servers are all in the same site - no additional connector is
needed. 2. The servers are in different sites. Either a x.400 connector
is required (usually recommended for slower connections or inconsistent
connections) or a Site connector is required. Site connectors need/like
lots of bandwidth. Any other questions?
