It sounds like you are using the same account for services AND administration?  If 
that is the case then the answer to your question is, "Yes you are missing quite a 
lot".  You should stop doing this as soon as possible - you've lost all accountability.

If you are just changing the Administrative password, then you don't need to re-start 
or re-boot anything.

If you are changing the Service Account password, you can do this on the Properties 
page of the Configuration Container.  Then change the password in User Manager for 
Domains.  Stop and restart all Exchange services in the site.  (Q157780)
